Pisces Blue Moon 8/31/12

Pisces Full Moon 8/31/12  @ 7:58 AM Pacific time A day at the Beach! Or as they say, "a bad day fishing is still better than any day working..." Have you ever heard that if you look at a Full Blue Moon, you will see Marilyn Monroe's face?  I don't know why this is, but I have seen it!  I am so excited for this Pisces Full Blue moon, as I have a Pisces moon myself.  Pisces full moons are always wonderful for intuition, dreaming, healing and strong emotions.  This Pisces Blue moon seems extra powerful, a time to be near water, listen to the roaring of the ocean or ripples of a stream, quiet of a lake.  Talk to a fish, gain insight, wisdom and grace.  This is a powerful time to transform your inner being, be the change you wish to see!  Have gratitude for the abundance in your life, I wish you enough.  Savor these last moments of Summer, camp out under the Full moon if you can or just go for a moonlit stroll.  Pisces is the most romantic of the signs... Pisces also loves free time, down time, so I took this weekend off for some ME time before schedules get really busy with School starting and the Fall busy-ness.  There is a sense of wanting to do whatever you want to do with Pisces Moons, so I hope if you couldn't take the day off, you could at least leave the office early while the boss wasn't looking.  Or sneak in a walk or some time for reflection.  It's that sense of skipping school to go to the beach one last time before final exams.  This is perfectly aligned with a 3 day, Labor Day weekend to do just what you want to do!  Please savor the weekend, make it all about what you want to do, not necessarily what you need to get done.  I just got a brand new puppy, so I hope to have lots of play time at the beach, with some responsibility mixed in. This Full Moon sets up an eat dessert first kind of weekend! This Full Moon is also about abundance, with Jupiter playing a strong role, look for new opportunities for success, wealth and manifesting your goals.  One of the best ways to manifest more, is by being grateful for what you already have.  Make a gratitude list in your journal, realize you already have enough. I wish you enough!  You encompass all you desire, you are receiving it now.  Give thanks to the Creator,  then focus on what you would like to add to that gratitude list in the future. Looking for romance, true love? Once in a blue moon, you fall in love! May this Blue moon manifest your heart's desires! I'd love to hear about your magical Pisces Full Moon, leave your comments about how you spent your Full moon below.

New Moon to Blue Moon

Blue Moon 8/31/12 Pisces

New Moon to Blue Moon   Friday 8/17/12 @ 8:54 am  (Pacific) is the New Moon Leo. New moons are always the best time to plant seeds, begin new projects and start a new relationship.  Leo is ruled by the Sun & we have been finally getting some warm Sun in Seattle!  Leo also rules over desires and fame, a time when we want recognition for our talents. Leo, the Lioness, think your Majesty, time to get in your power, have pride and confidence.  This is the moon to be the best you can be, begin projects you have been dreaming of and make it happen now!  Leo is ruled by fire, so this is a good time for bonfires on the beach (maybe not at the dry campground where it could be a huge fire hazard!) Leo also sparks passion, this is a great new moon for finding new love or bringing your relationship to the next level.  Leo makes for great friendships, too, good time to get out with friends, play and enjoy yourself. Leo new moon has a lot to do with Strength & personal power, it can be related to the Strength card in the Tower.  This immediately brings to mind Samson & Delilah, Delilah wanting to know how Samson came upon his strength and eventually cutting his hair to rob him of his strength.  No one can take your power from you! This is a good time to focus on your Hara, 3rd Chakra power. Here is an exercise I give clients is to find your Acupressure point for the Hara, also known as the Sea of Chi (CV-6).  Place your hand at your belly button and count 3 fingers width below the belly button, that is the spot.  Press gently here while taking a deep full belly breath, as you exhale and your belly caves in, press deeper into the point.   Envision a ball of orange light like the Sun, radiating warmth and energy in your belly.  Do this exercise 5-10 times in a row to increase energy, access your reserve chi and empower yourself. This is similar to the dantien, that martial artists use to access their power.  This is a potent point for Fertility Acupressure, to build fertile chi.

Sea of Chi Activation (Hara)

During this 2 week New Moon cycle, Chiron is still in Pisces meaning a wonderful time for healing, inspiring dreams, time to journal those dreams for messages that can lead to transformation. The full moon on 8/31/12 will be a Blue Moon (the second Full moon in one month) and it will be in Pisces.  Pisces Full Moon is all about the subconscious, dreams, intuition and emotions.  Surrender to your subconscious, listen to your gut and let things happen for you, instead of forcing them to happen for once.  I will write more about this exciting Pisces Blue Moon as it approaches, so check back!

Migraine Remedies

Posted on: August 16th, 2012 by healing_arts_admin
Migraine Remedies I have been a migraine sufferer since I was a kid. I seem to always attract migraine clients, too. It’s like a secret society of pain. I have helped many migraine sufferers to have less frequent, less intense migraines. I thought I would share some of my favorite Migraine Remedies here: 1) my favorite remedy when a migraine is coming on is taking 500-1000 mg of Niacin, the kind that makes you flush (they have come up w/ non flushing Niacin and that does not do the trick) one of the only brands I know that still has flushing Niacin is Twinlabs (it will say on the bottle, this product may cause flushing, look for that). The flushing causes all the blood in your head to vasodilate, this takes the migraine down a notch and sometimes gets rid of it completely. 2) Heat to your hands and feet, this draws the blood and heat out of your head. If you are at home, you can put your feet in a hot footbath and hold a hot cup of tea in your hands. Even if you are at work, you can put your hands under the hot water in the bathroom or hold a hot cup of tea. Never, ever put heat on your head, neck or shoulders during a migraine (this brings more blood to the area & could lead to a stroke!) 3) Ice pack on the back of your neck or over your eyes. 4) Eat popsicles, the cold on the roof of your mouth chills your head, again vasodilating. 5) Brain Freeze your migraine away! This is best in summer, get an ice cold milkshake, smoothie or slurpee and drink until you have a brain freeze! Vasodilator! 6) Hoku Point, this point is located between your thumb and forefinger. It draws blood away from your head, down and out & really helps with headaches. This point should not be done while pregnant, as it is also a labor inducer.

Hoku Point for Migraine

7) Take supplements regularly such as Magnesium, B vitamins (B2) and CoQ10, as they have all been studied to reduce frequency of headaches and migraine. Some find relief from Feverfew. 8) Hydrate-Drink plenty of water so you don’t get dehydrated. 9) Keep your blood sugar level throughout the day by not getting too hungry, snack on high protein foods like cheese, turkey and pretein bars. 10) Reiki, Massage & Acupressure regularly can all help reduce the severity and frequency of migraines by nourishing yourself (getting overwhelmed and over stressed can be a trigger) 11) Exercise! Sometimes even when a migraine strikes, if you can get out and go for a walk, do yoga, you can shift the energy. 12) Eat blood building foods such a quality grass fed beef, red beets, spinach, adzuki beans, kale and cherries. Blood energy depletion can lead to migraines. 13) Sleep! Lack of sleep is a big contributor to headache and migraine, so avoid caffeine after 2pm to assure your nights sleep… If you have trouble sleeping try a sleep aid like Valerian, which is also a muscle relaxant. 14) Cupping the back of your neck and shoulder muscles can decrease and even stop a migraine,it also prevents migraines from coming on when done regularly (I do this one all the time!) 15) Aromatherapy for Migraines: try some Rosemary oil on your temples. Peppermint is also useful, but can lead to hypersensitivities, I used to love peppermint on my temples & scalp when I had a migraine, now just the smell of peppermint makes me feel sick, so I prefer Rosemary. My favorite book about Migraine is entitled “migraine” by Oliver Sacks. He tells great stories of migraine throughout history and even as awful as migraine is, he will make you feel like you are in a special, artistic, spiritual club! I love the story of Hildegard De Bingen who had horrible migraines right after she had her visions from God. When she was treated for her migraines, her visions went away, so she went off her medication. She would rather have the visions with migraines than not. Inspiring! When I am not actually having a migraine, I like to think of them as a gift because it helps me to understand pain, which makes me a more compassionate healer…(though ask me when I am in the throws of a migraine & I might say, “can I return this gift?”)

National RELAXATION Day August 15, 2012

August 15th is National Relaxation Day

Celebrate National Relaxation Day with a Massage @ Queen Anne Healing Arts!

I say we call it national do nothing but get a massage day!

National Relaxation Day August 15

8 Great Ways to RELAX & release Oxytocin the feel good hormone!

(see if you can accomplish all of these relaxation techniques today!!!)
  1. Walk.  Sneak out of the office or house and go for a long walk!  Walking releases endorphins, reduces stress and is my favorite way (next to massage) to relax.  Pay attention to all the sights, sounds sensations on your walk, allow yourself to be immersed and forget about anything that may have been worrying you.  Thich Nhat Hahn has this walking meditation: The mind can go in a 1,000 directions, but on this beautiful path I walk in peace.  With each step, a gentle wind blows, with each step, a flower blooms.
  2.  Massage increases relaxation by increasing oxytocin, the feel good hormone!  It also reduces cortisol, the stress hormone.  Studies have shown that getting one massage a month helps you relax and improves immune function by increasing Natural Killer (NK) cells.
  3. Garden gardening is like therapy you can eat! Grow vegetables, fruit and flowers.  There is something so relaxing about having your hands in the soil.  If all you have is a windowsill, you can still grow herbs and flowers.  It's uplifting to see plants growing and blooming before your eyes.
  4. Sex  Also releases Oxytocin plus Dopamine both feel good.  Wilhelm Reich studied the power of an orgasm to release muscular armour, relieve the body of tension and increase energy.
  5. Chocolate is a mood elevator!  Dark chocolate also release oxytocin, now health studies have shown it's good for your heart!
  6. Epsom Salt Bath  Light some candle, sink into a hot Epsom Salt Bath with some soothing Aromatherapy such as Lavender, Ylang Ylang or geranium.  The Epsom Salts will soften all the fascia in your muscles, release lactic acid and detoxify you, ahhh relaxing!
  7. Mantras.  Say my favorite Mantra whenever you're feeling overwhelmed or stressed out, "It doesn't Matter!" because truly if you have your health, family is healthy, no one is bleeding, everything else really does.not.matter!  Don't stress the small stuff, it's all small stuff!
  8.  Breathe and Meditate....Imagine a warm,  orange colored liquid pouring into the top of your head, flowing down through your body, bathing every cell in a warm, orange glowing light, allow it to disentigrate any negativity.

Why I will send you hiking if you are sick!

Posted on: August 14th, 2012 by healing_arts_admin
I'm usually pretty lenient about giving a massage to clients, even if they come in sick.  We can always cup the back of your neck to try to clear the cold out sooner.  Sometimes I will do a Eucalyptus steam to release and open sinuses.  I have a super strong immune system as a mom, having a teacher at home and being a Massage Therapist.  Last year I was around hundreds of viruses on a daily basis it seemed & I only caught one small bug at the end of the season.  I think it was because of the powerful protection of my Immune Boost Aromatherapy spritzer!  However, this season I am cracking down and

NOT ALLOWING CLIENTS TO RECEIVE MASSAGE WHEN THEY ARE SICK!!

A few reasons for this change in protocol is that I have several clients I am seeing this Fall who are deeply immune deficient whether they are fighting for their lives recovering from Cancer treatments, Pregnant, elderly or have other health issues that would be severely compromised if they were to get ill...I know we can all get viruses from anywhere in public, doors, grocery carts, but I just don't think it's fair to someone coming in for their massage, if they are immune compromised, to be breathing in a potential virus left by the client just before, there is just not enough time to thoroughly air out the space after a viral client has been in. So please try to cancel online or by phone, e-mail within 24 hours of your massage appointment if you are sick! If you come in Sick, you will be asked to leave, you will forfeit that time (which then means I lose money because I can no longer fill the spot, bad for both of us, so please try to think ahead if you're feeling sick and be considerate, to cancel ahead!)
