Ming Men Season

Ming Men are the points in the low back that relate to the Kidneys and they rule our “gate of Vitality”, they give us energy, help to digest food, effects our libido and motivation.  In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) it is said, “always keep your Ming Men warm!”  When this internal fire goes out, we lose all vital energy.  This time of year, as Winter approaches, you can get cold invasion in your Ming Men region.  This can lead to low back stiffness, low energy and lack of motivation, lack of CHI (energy).

Ming Men depletion can also effect Fertility, this makes it one of my favorite points to treat in Fertility Acupressure.  My favorite treatment is two warm stones on the Ming Men points to heat them up again.  I also like the Sun Fork (Acutonics) on the Ming Men, to warm, nourish and energize.  Cupping can also be used to bring blood and energy to the Ming Men region.

Good things come to those who wait…

never enough time in the day!

Fall is for some reason, our busiest Massage season.

Maybe it is because with that first chill in the air, everyone’s bodies start to twinge, joints begin to ache and exhaustion sets in.

The body says, “hey remember me? can I get a massage now?”

In Seattle, in particular, I think we tend to neglect getting massages in the Summer because the weather is great and we’re just not feeling the need.  Then Fall, everyone I haven’t heard from in months comes in and we are booked, booked, booked!  I wish Massage was more like Pizzas and we could just keep making them, but unfortunately there are only so many slots in a day.   Especially if the day is a Saturday, the most popular massage day of the week.

So hopefully, you will plan ahead and know that good things do come to those who wait!

As I always tell clients who call on Saturday afternoon, hoping to get in same day, the truth is if you could find a massage therapist who had an opening on a Saturday afternoon, same day, it probably would not be worth your time or your money because most of the really talented massage therapist I know are always booked out on Saturdays!  I know how it goes, I have done the same thing with a haircut, trying desperately to get in last minute because I have put it off too long and my hair needs it right now.  However you really do get a better service when you think ahead, schedule ahead.  I always joke that this is why I have 90% female clients and the 10% of males I have are married to those females.  It is because men are worse about planning ahead, they tend to call for same day appointments which I rarely have.  Females tend to be better about booking out.

Speaking of booking out, remember that the Fall Back seems to comes a bit later this Season, Sunday November 4th 2012.

Fall Back with a Massage! (better book now though!)

Pregnancy Massage – must have list when baby’s on board

Posted on: October 3rd, 2012 by healing_arts_admin

Pregnancy Massage

I have so many pregnancy massage clients & pregnant friends who ask what were the essential items I liked having when my son was first born…I decided to put this list together for my pregnancy massage clients and friends, complete with links to Amazon, where you can easily get any of these supplies or create a baby shower registry. This way I can have a resource page to refer to my prenatal massage clients.

I decided to write this list of my Baby Must Haves! Some of these I was given as gifts at my baby shower (usually by moms) and I have to say some of them did not particularly excite me when I was given as a gift. Like Babylegs for instance, baby leg warmers, okay they’re cute but whatever…Later, I completely understood what a gem they were b/c when you’re baby wears baby legs, there is no need for pants and diaper change is a breeze! Brilliant I tell ya…

The other thing I wish I had invented : the BOPPY! My boppy was well loved & well used! I remember when I was pregnant I saw some sitcom where a the dad is watching the baby and he is using the Boppy to hold his beer and pretzels, too funny! My son loved his boppy, made breastfeeding so comfortable and other times he would lay on the floor in it.

Here’s the thing no one tells you about, unless you have an awesome Doula or postpartum massage specialist like me! You will definitely want to do sitz baths postpartum, this helps speed recovery time like nothing else! I have heard horror stories of women taking weeks to months to recover down there. I was lucky enough to have this amazing sitz bath, which I did at least 2-3 times a day (trust me, it’s a good excuse for some alone time, too!). By the third day, I felt mostly healed, a speedy recovery I’m told.

I loved my breast pump, I used this brand:

Loved my hooter hider, for when you’re eating in a nice restaurant or at the park and you want to breastfeed without making a big deal of it!

You absolutely must master the SWADDLE!!!

I loved our Moby baby carrier, for keeping baby snug in, the sexiest thing in the world was seeing my baby daddy carrying my son in the Moby, let your husband feel what it’s like to be pregnant! ha ha! then jab ’em in the bladder, I’m kidding!

Sometimes you just need a place to put the baby down for a minute, so you can maybe go pee or breathe or something…that’s when I loved my Moses Basket! You can bring the baby anywhere in this and just have a place for them!

but when you want a place for them and you want them to fall asleep, that’s when you need the SWING!

My favorite Teether of all time, is the meshy, you can put frozen banannas, blueberries, etc in, my son loved chomping on this

<iframe src=”http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=wwwqueenanneh-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B0076DFF1I” style=”width:120px;height:240px;” scrolling=”no” marginwidth=”0″ marginheight=”0″ frameborder=”0″></iframe>

and when they just can’t sleep because of teething or colic or just plain cranks, I loved Calm Forte’ as a gentle soother

<iframe src=”http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=wwwqueenanneh-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B0012BYIRC” style=”width:120px;height:240px;” scrolling=”no” marginwidth=”0″ marginheight=”0″ frameborder=”0″></iframe>

I have some secret acupressure points for getting babies to sleep, too, you can ask me @ your next prenatal massage appointment.

Also, there is still time to sign up for Reiki 1 class w/ attunement on 10/13/12.  Once you learn Reiki, you can offer healing touch to your pets, your family and most importantly, YOURSELF!!!

Here are some testimonials from students of Reiki 1:

Here are some Reiki Class Testimonials from my students:

“I am a bodyworker who was experiencing extreme fatigue, adrenal depletion and thinking maybe I’d have to give up doing bodywork if I couldn’t get my health in check.  I went to Terri for a Massage and she recommend I add Reiki to my toolbox because it could help me as well as giving me a modality I could do that would not wear me out so much.  So I took Reiki 1 class and right after the attunement I felt my energy come flooding back. We learned how to do Reiki self care, which I have done almost everyday since the class, I feel re-born.  My clients have enjoyed receiving Reiki, too, some of them are reaching much deeper levels of relaxation than ever before.  I feel like I can go on as a bodyworker, this Reiki class saved my health and my career!”  Tammy Gibbons

“I am a nurse and I just decided to take a Reiki class in Seattle, on a whim because I thought it might help with my low energy levels, since I sometimes work 14 hour shifts 3 days in a row. I’ve gained so much more than just energy! The Reiki self care techniques have really taught me how to rejuvenate myself, so that I have more to give, it also helps me sleep better (I’ve had insomnia for years)
I have also been able to use Reiki on patients when they are waiting for pain medication to kick in, it seems to calm them down and really soothe them until they can get pain relief from their meds.
I’m excited to take Reiki 2, so that I can learn distant healing and give Reiki to situations which would also benefit my work and life.” Judy Meier

Reiki got this dog’s tail wagging!
